Police shoot dead four members of ‘Ah Boy’ gang
By STEVEN DANIEL
SEPANG: Police shot dead four members of a suspected armed robbery gang that has been involved in numerous break-ins in several states.
The so-called “Ah Boy gang” has broken into and robbed at least 10 homes in Shah Alam, Ampang, Banting, Kepong and Subang Jaya in the Klang Valley, and is also believed to have been involved in robberies in Negri Sembilan and Johor.
A team of eight policemen from the Selangor Serious Crime Division (D9) came upon the four suspects in a car in Dengkil at 12.15am Sunday.
When they ordered them to stop, the suspects instead got out and allegedly charged at the policemen with machetes.
Police said they were forced to open fire. A total of nine shots were fired, killing all four suspects. One policeman suffered a cut on his hand and was sent to a clinic later for treatment.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the four suspects, aged between 22 and 30, had been active for about six months and were believed to be on the lookout for a house to rob in the nearby area when cops stumbled upon them.
Police seized four machetes and a sickle inside the car and found a laptop, camcoder and personel documents allegedly belonging to a victim whose house had been robbed on Thursday.
The car they were in was reported stolen in Damansara in September last year.
DCP Khalid said two of the suspects had Indonesian passports, while another was from Sarawak. The fourth had no identification documents.
